After Corona? - HEALTHCARE

In this series of The Possibility Club podcast, we’re asking questions about what next, and whether life after the national anguish of austerity, Brexit and covid 19 will set progress back on things we care about or will accelerate the growth of ideas and new ways of working. Will we grow? Growth is not purely economic. Post-traumatic growth can be social, cultural, moral, technological - about the expansion of ideas and of access to opportunity for more people. In each episode we focus on a different part of our society - a business sector or public service - and hear personal testimony from people who are worried or hopeful or both about what the future means for them and their work. Everyone you’re about to hear is speaking in a personal capacity, and from the heart. They reflect on their own experiences of life in 2020, as well as thinking more widely about the implications for the future. Some names have been changed. ---- In this episode, we focus on health. Answering our questions are a GP, a dental hygienist, an NHS Manager, and a menopause expert. The whole world has effectively been shut down for the sake of our collective health, and out of fear on what uncontrolled viral infections will do for our healthcare systems. So, is this the beginning of a better funded and better resourced UK health system, and a wake up call about the scale of what we need to do to care properly for society’s most vulnerable and to value the role of healthcare workers? Or has this been proof that politics, social inequality and unsustainable economics mean that our attitudes to health leave us destined to keep patching up a system unfit for purpose?
